Initiated by the “UN Refugee Agency and supported by a global network of local social enterprises, MADE51 helps refugee artisans achieve independence by integrating them into viable supply chains and creating a means to market their crafts worldwide. Through MADE51, the unique skills and heritage of refugee artisans are fused with modern design, resulting in original home décor and fashion items. Featuring product lines made in collaboration with local social enterprises all over the world, MADE51’s debut collection launched in 2018.

As a result of MADE51, thousands of refugee artisans are equipped to contribute to the global economy, but it is only through sales and retail partnerships that they will be able to employ their skills and traditions to earn an income through their craft.

The MORE THAN SHELTERS product line line builds on the tailoring skills of Syrian women in Zaatari refugee camp and material upcycling. The refugee women give a new life to old and discarded UNHCRtents by turning them into beautiful canvas bags. The MORE THAN SHELTERS product line line builds on the tailoring skills of Syrian women in Zaatari refugee camp and material up-cycling. The refugee women give a new life to old and discarded UNHCR tents by turning them into beautiful bags out of canvas made to withstand the most extreme conditions. The result is a fresh, practical product that tells a genuine story of hardships and hopes, and provides an income for the most vulnerable women in the camp.

The JORDAN RIVER FOUNDATION strives to create sustainable economic opportunities for local community women and female refugees by capitalizing on their potential as independent breadwinners within their families.

There has been an immense interest from women to participate in JORDAN RIVER FOUNDATION’s social and economic empowerment programs, especially in the fields of entrepreneurship, culinary arts and handicrafts. These programs are particularly designed to leverage the women’s employability and social skills, as well as their business acumen.
